A series of portraits of Shanghai people and their medicine collection.
Through chance encounters on the streets and in public parks, people of varying ages and occupations were invited to be photographed in their own homes, together with the medications they possessed.
The portraits offer a glimpse of the subjects’ health conditions, personalities and living environments. In addition, by photographing the curious assortments of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western medicine in their collections, they explore the shifts in health and cultural practices in China.
Produced during an Artist Links residency in Shanghai, supported by the British Council and Arts Council England, 2006.
