A playful view of tongue diagnosis, an essential diagnostic method in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

During an artist residency at the Chinese Arts Centre, Manchester, gallery visitors were invited by the artist to stick their tongues out at the camera. Images of their tongues were then analysed by TCM practitioners, whose diagnoses, together with a survey of the participants’ dietary preferences, inform the work.

Chinese Tongue Diagnosis offers an eccentric view of this alternative medical practice, as well as a celebration of the participants’ diversity.
